Hi I’m Clair, Director of Chestnut Huts, a small business based on the beautiful North Devon coast, with a mission to build stunning traditionally and sustainably crafted huts & houses for people that have always dreamt of owning one.

I come from a business background and have spent a lot of my career in antiques and interior design, I then moved into project managing sustainable property renovations and conversions, through my company Seven Pillars Creative, so have built a network of fine trades and crafts people, designers and architects who all have a passion for decarbonising the construction industry and working in a sustainable, ethical way.

With all this, and living in the beautiful Southwest, building bespoke shepherds huts, cabins and even tree houses seemed natural and exciting, the idea of being able to make these beautiful spaces and ensure that local materials are used as much as possible, virtually all our suppliers are from Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, so it makes me very happy and proud to be working in this way.

While I originally started the business with a partner, I now carry it on independently under the banner of Seven Pillars Creative and the business relationships I have developed with the fabulous Greendown team and Kookaburra Carpentry to name just a couple are helping Chestnut grow very organically and successfully. as my ethos is that everyone should grow alongside one another

My work brings me joy and for that I am very lucky and grateful. I get the most joy when I see my customers dreams come to life, that special space, that dreamy place they have always wanted in their garden, field or woods, or for some I am able to help them start or expand their business and all with a near zero carbon footprint, its wonderful, the people I meet and the stories that we feel privileged to become part of!

I adore my standard wire haired dachshund, Mabel, I sing in a Jazz band and I’m passionate about making our homes and gardens as eco friendly as we can afford to!
